Another New Book -I Am Reading It Now.

I have not mentioned Stephen Marche’s new book from earlier this year because I thought it was just about civil war scenarios rather than peaceful disunion scenarios. But then I read this from one of the reviews of the book:

“…The author believes four legitimate nation states could be created out of the present United States of America. Here he questions the legitimacy of the original constitutions. For example, the fathers of confederation gave blacks in the south three fifths of a vote which was passed onto their owners. That meant that 32 of the first 36 American presidents came from the south.

A divide in the nation was created that has never been resolved. As of 2018, no Republicans were elected to urban congressional districts. Sixty-two senators represent one quarter of the American population. Six senators represent another quarter. Six of the nine supreme court judges were selected by presidents who didn’t win 50% of the popular vote. Add the gerrymandering and the possibility of state legislatures deciding on the outcome of federal elections and the situation becomes untenable.

The author believes four legitimate countries could be created out of the present United States of America. Even though none would be the superpower, all would be happier with the resultant political union than they are with the present. Along the west coast would be Cascadia that would include the California, Oregon and Washington. Texas would become its own country. The north-eastern states would continue to the called the United States as they were part of the original formation and would extend along the coast to Virginia and along the northern border to Minnesota. The central and southern states would make up the final country of The Republic of the United States. Although much poorer than the other breakout countries, it would be able to have the very weak central government these states claim to desire.”…

Wow! This is my wavelength, similar to what I am proposing here on New Harmony. -I need to read this book. So, I just got a copy, and have begun.

Here is the Amazon page for the book, which the author recommends for ordering:

The Next Civil War: Dispatches from the American Future by Stephen Marche

I’m sure I will have more to say here on this blog after I finish the book.
